Personal History: Sarai and her sister Irves were born in the Azim Steppe to the Dalamiq tribe. When the red moon Dalamud fell, causing the Calamity, the sisters were sent to Eorzea to discover the reason why. They arrived in Ul'dah and Sarangerel undertook becoming a pugilist, though being something of a dilettante, that was not her only job.
A Realm Reborn
Being a seeker of knowledge, Sarai investigated the Crystal Tower with NOAH and the other researchers, developing a crush on one of them. To her sorrow, G'raha sealed himself within it as the last scion of Allag, to wait for the technology that could control the Tower's power to be discovered.
Heavensward
During the events of Heavensward, Sarai cultivated a friendship with Haurchefant, the bastard son of Count Edmont de Fortemps. He was slain when he took a hit from one of Thordan's knights--a strike intended for her. It only strengthened her resolve to see Thordan's plains fail.
She also met a young summoner by the name of Dread Thunderstorm while passing through Limsa Lominsa. After some shameless flirting (and a little groping!) on her part, they paired off and took on the various future trials together.
Stormblood
Returning to the Azim Steppe was like coming home in a way, though the Dalamiq clan seemed to have moved on deeper into the Steppe. The Mol were more than welcoming, however, even if she had not met the tribe personally before. Though when the khan of the Oronir asked if she was his Nhaama (the mystical, feminine counterpart to Azim, the Sun), Sarai said that she was flattered, but he wasn't man enough for her, and gestured to Dread rather pointedly...
Under the direction of Sanson Smythe, a captain in the Order of the Twin Adder, Sarai joined the bards' unit he was building. With her teacher Jehantel's blessing, she helped find out the true history of the Autumn War--that Lord Vainchelon had been slain by Ala Mhigan treachery. Despite the desire of Vainchelon's descendant Nourval to see war continue in Ala Mhigo, with the aid of her companions, she brought the truth to light, and the true desire of Vainchelon himself--to see peace reign over the world.
Personality: Despite being short in stature, Sarai is full of personality. She can be a cheerful chatterbox, if you are on her good side, ready to share a joke or a drink. If you're not, well...stony silences and glares are your lot in life.
Sarai has a big heart--she is the type who cannot walk past someone down on their luck without giving them a few gil to help them get by. When an unscrupulous merchant attempted to get a woman arrested in Ul'dah, Sara was the only person to get in his face and drive him off, when others just tried to ignore it. She doesn't do things like that for personal gain, self-affirmation, or fame, she does it because it's right. That's what good people do.
She is quirky, with a tendency to get bogged down in details on occasion. It's easy for her to get lost in her own head, to analyze (and overanalyze) in her search for goodness and for truth. Sarai admits that she needs friends, she needs other people. Not just for its own sake (although she values her friends and friendship very highly), but to get her out of her thoughts and analyses and into the world. Her younger sister Irves often serves this purpose for her, but there have been others. Most notably, Thordan VII--who, like few others ever did, motivated Sarai into a lust for revenge. He took someone who was a beloved friend, almost a brother, away from her, and she wanted to make him pay.
Which only proves that despite the transience of her tribe, the Xaela, Sarai feels things deeply, and yearns for stability. People coming and going, disappearing from her life? Such things bother her, and she has a tendency to get clingy. And yet, when they return (like some have; Thancred, her mentor in the Scions of the Seventh Dawn, as an example), she's overjoyed and likely to pick up as if time has passed little in their separation. This, of course, means that she takes betrayal harshly.
Despite being a member of the Dalamiq clan, Sarai is not as obsessed with reverence, for either the moon or the dragon that came from it. After all, if Bahamut was trapped by the Allag, he couldn't be that powerful, could he? Her curiosity, however, has often sent Sara poking into places where wiser men might fear to tread--the Aurum Vale, a dungeon full of magical and alchemical residue, and the Crystal Tower, a relic of ancient Allag. She could not wait to get to Azys Lla and explore there, simply because it was a remnant of the ancient civilization that fascinates her so.
Sarai can be very focused; this is simple truth. Though that makes it seem as if she never finds the time to laugh and have fun, there is nothing further from the truth. Sara happily frequented the festivals that Eorzea celebrated. Her curiosity also makes her unafraid to try new things, be it a new dance or a new type of food offered in a place she has never visited before. She is not too beholden to her dignity to play the fool in an attempt to cheer up a sad friend; nor is she stuffy and unwilling to actually enjoy life. She enjoys a good joke or a shared laugh, and cheering people up and bringing joy is something she finds as worthwhile as any magic or skills she ever mustered in the defense of Eorzea, her chosen homeland.
Sarai isn't locked into dignity above all else, unlike her younger sister, Irves. She tends to be more approachable and easy to talk to, and she definitely encourages this...
Key themes: Overcoming adversity and supporting the people she cares for.
Main Motivation: She cares too much to not do something, if she can. Who sees a problem, gets it. Sarai can barely even walk past two friends having an argument without butting in to try to solve it...
Skills:
As a bard, Sarai is a fairly typical archer--who augments her skills at shooting all sorts of different arrows with the power of rousing song. Details can be found here.
Sarai also has some training as a white mage (read: healer), and is a somewhat skilled summoner as well as a decently skilled bard. She can also cook very well, and has some ability with alchemy and carpentry, so she can brew up healing potions and repair her bow if needed.
And as if all this weren't confusing enough, there's The Echo...
Item: Failnaught Anemos
Sample: Talking to two fine gentlemen, but wait, there's more!
Notes: Sarai has a few more appendages than your average Au Ra, a result of a magical accident that occurred when she and her sister Irves were plumbing a corrupted dungeon named Aurum Vale. Due to both the twisted aether and the goldbile that pooled within, both she and Irves grew nails like claws and two extra sets of horns. These do nothing at all but look somewhat frightening, and have her mistaken for a demon from time to time.
